I come before you a broken and beaten man. This weekend's game has left quite a bad taste in my mouth. I'm going to have to rant a little bit, starting right about....
Notre Dame @ Boston College (-3.5)
Pick. ND WIN.
Result: 17-0 BC.
Just an absolute abortion of a game. I felt like it was last year all over again. The Irish O was simply nonexistent. On the brightside, the D stepped up, only 10 points were given up by the squad and were able to stop several drives that started on their side of the field thanks to turnovers. They were the beneficiaries of several missed FGs but with all of the help that the Irish O was trying to give them, they more than deserved the break. Now back to the offense...5 turnovers for the O, 4 of which were Clausen INT's. Another pathetic showing on the ground with only 66 rushing yards. JC was an abysmal 26 of 46 and averaged a whopping 4.6 yards per pass to go along with his 4 picks. He simply looked outmatched, playing like a confused freshman again. Within hours of the defeat, Charlie, ostensibly sensing that his job is in jeopardy, said he is taking the play calling duties back over. An article came out today saying it was due to Haywood leaving for a family funeral, but I highly doubt it. Yes this was not supposed to be a huge year for the Irish, but to see unmotivated performances like this, with poor turnovers and tons of penalties that show a lack of discipline, the Irish are still not where they need to be. Weis MUST win these next 2 games, there is no excuse for losing either. A loss to either Navy or Syracuse should, and quite possibly would, lead to him looking for a new job. While his recruiting has been fantastic, the results on the field are always the most important thing.
(sorry bout that...i'm horribly horribly scared of where my team is going, back to it shall we)
#1 Alabama (-3) @ #16 LSU
Pick: Bama Cover.
Result: 27-21 Bama OT. Win both
Heck of a ballgame. Julio Jones showed why he was one of the most highly touted recruits coming into the year. Still...you have to wonder if Bama's O is really good enough to go all the way this year. I dont know who the final 2 teams will be, but one of the nasty SEC D's up against one of the potent Big XII O's is gonna make for a hell of a title game. A shame for LSU to come up with a huge blocked kick to force OT, only to be unable to finish the job.
#9 Oklahoma St. @ #2 Texas Tech(-3.5)
Pick: Tech cover
Result: 56-20 Tech, win both.
Ummm...that was a gratuitous cover. Leach continues to just play a video game in the real world. Harrell's final stat line: 40/50, 456 yds, 6 TDs. Are you kidding me? This kid is just on another level. And his favorite target? A ho-hum 89 yards on 8 catches...for 3 TDs. Leach better keep winning now because he is gonna miss these two. Even tho he has shown his ability to get #s out of whoever he has, these 2 are something special.
#21 Cal @ #7 USC (-22.5)
Pick: USC cover.
Result: 17-3 USC, win SU lose ATS
Hmm...that didn't go as planned. USC fails to make a case for getting back in the title hunt and probably regulates themselves to a different BCS bowl this year. The funny part though...Oregon St still controls their destiny as far as the Pac 10 title goes, meaning SC may not be going to the Rose Bowl.
