Week 11 College Football Picks

So as you already know, there was no pick recap post from this week. If you read my rant from Sunday, you should already know why it didn't happen. I've been too angry to go back and write about the Navy game, it was absolutely horrendous. On top of that, I put up a brutal 1-4. The scoreboard has been updated on the right if you are wondering where you stand. So let's get to the picks from this week's at best, decent slate. First a reminder/request: if you are going to pick, please pick them all. Also, these are the lines (from here), so pick those, no making up lines.

#16 Utah @ #4 TCU (-19.5)
Pick: Utah +19.5
TCU has played good ball this year, but a 3 score favorite against another top 25 team? I don't think so. I think this game will be a little closer, and who knows, maybe this week will be the week TCU gets their dreams crushed.

Stanford @ #9 USC (-10.5)
Pick: Stanford +10.5
I'm making this pick pretty much solely based on the good old transitive property of football. Oregon beat USC by 27. Stanford beat Oregon by 9. Clearly Stanford will beat USC by 36. MATH!

#10 Iowa @ #11 Ohio St (-17)
Pick: Iowa +17
Now Iowa lost their QB Stanzi last week EARLY in their loss to Northwestern. Stanzi is slated to sit this weekend too. While that should mean an easy win for the Buckeyes, I don't think there is a Big TenLeven team I could ever pick to cover a 17 point spread. Wayyyyy too many.

Texas Tech @ #19 Oklahoma St (-4)
Pick: Texas Tech (+4)
What can I say, we are just flat out due for a Mike Leach pirate game. Still no Dez Bryant, let's get crazy.

Notre Dame @ #12 Pittsburgh (-7)
Pick: ND +7
It's simple, if Charlie wants to stick around, this game is pretty much a must win. Beyond that, Pitt is up to 8-1 sure, but who have they beat? Youngstown St, Buffalo, Navy (too soon? too soon), Louisville, UConn, Rutgers, Cuse, S. Florida. Not a great lineup right there. ND is going to come out angry, and last I checked, Pit doesn't run the triple option. Plus, surely Weis can beat the Wannestache right?

There they are, go get em folks.

I'm fucking terrified. Thoughts on ND's Future

I honestly don’t know where Notre Dame is going. Clearly Weis isn’t cutting it. The fact that he wasn’t fired after 3-9 should’ve used up all of his pity. I wrote a lonnnnnng post after last year’s loss to USC about whether or not Charlie should have a job anymore. At this point, I honestly don’t know what to do. On one hand, Weis clearly isn’t getting the job done. 3-9 was fucking pathetic and inexcusable. The next year, only 7-6…I mean, this shit is not ok at Notre Dame. Then you walk into this year, a talent laden team, a creampuff schedule…and you’ve already lost to a 5-5 Michigan team and a Navy team that just lost to Temple last week. I repeat TEMPLE BEAT THE TEAM THAT JUST BEAT NOTRE DAME FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!!

Pitt and Stanford both scared me before this game, now Stanford just beat down a good Oregon team, Pitt continued to kill, and we lose to Navy…Holy F. As of now I figure losing one of those is a given, both is a very decent possibility. I feel like Weis can not be trusted with this team anymore. He just isn’t producing. I wish he had succeeded, he’s a Notre Dame guy, good pedigree, but holy shit win a damn game son. I always defend based on his recruiting, and his classes have been great, but they don’t produce, so what do you do??? If the results aren’t there, a change must be made.

But then there is the flip side. First, if they weren’t already gonna leave due to fear of a Bradford-esque injury, or the upcoming labor issues and likely rookie salary cap, you’ve gotta figure if Weis is fired that both Clausen and Tate will leave early. 2nd, you have to wonder how many recruits will leave. Chris Martin, one of if not the top Defensive players in the country, has already said he’s still taking visits even w/ his commit to us, just to keep his options open in case there is a coaching change. Add to that other players who may leave. Then think about having to implement the new system of a new coach on both sides of the ball, and essentially having to hit the reset button on the program.

Plus, who do you go get? There are 3 names you will hear out of Irish fans wanting a change: Brian Kelly (head coach at Cincinatti), Jon Gruden (ESPN Commentator for MNF, former Raiders and Bucs head coach) and Skip Holtz (Head Coach at ECU, son of Lou). there are problems with all 3 options here though:

Brian Kelly: Kelly has done a hell of a job at Cinci the last 2 years. Right now, the Bearcats are undefeated, have the inside track on the Big East and a BCS spot, and a shot at the National Title game, even if it is unlikely. Kelly’s gone 30-6 at Cinci since taking over for the bowl game at the end of the 06 season. This season has been by far the best for Kelly at Cinci, rebounding well from a loss in the Orange bowl to VT 20-7. My question right now, is if I’m Brian Kelly, why leave for a high pressure situation, where you need results quickly or you will be axed, when right now you have built a program and will be treated as the man, the myth, the legend? He has no prior connection to ND, and is currently wrecking shop in arguably the weakest BCS conference…why leave?

Jon Gruden: There are some coaches that thrive in the pros, and some that thrive in college. We’ve seen what happens when that line is crossed by the likes of Spurrier and Carroll. Gruden’s ties to Notre Dame run deep: His dad was an Asst. coach for the Irish while Jon attended Clay HS in South Bend. Gruden thought about going to ND, but knew he wouldn’t get playing time, so he ended up at Dayton after a stop at Muskingum College. While Gruden has a few years of Asst. Coaching in college under his belt, he’s been a coach in the pros since 1992. Gruden had great success as the head coach of the Bucs and Raiders, but is now sitting in the MNF booth. There are 2 things that make me think Gruden won’t work. 1st is the idea that some guys are built for college ball, some are built for the pros. How many coaches can you think of that have had success in both? 2nd, there are quite a few HC jobs in the NFL that look to be vacant at years end. While Gruden has ties to the Irish, coming to Notre Dame is a step down from the NFL, that’s all there is to it. Would it really be worth it for him?

As for Skip…here’s the thing, you will not find someone that loves Lou Holtz more than me. But what the hell has Skip Holtz ever done to make ND fans think he is the answer?? Skip did some good work under his pops as OC between 92-94. But as a head coach: 38-23 at UConn, 29-21 currently at ECU thru last year. ECU made headlines last year, upsetting #17 VT and #8 West Virginia in the 1st two weeks of the year. But the team ended up at 9-5, losing to a decent at best Kentucky team in the Liberty Bowl. Let’s put it this way, if his last name wasn’t Holtz, nobody at ND would know who he is. Is that really the guy you want leading the way?

So the way I see it, our current head coach has proven he can’t win, and while he’s able to get great recruiting classes, hasn’t been able to produce on the field. But at the same time, can this program really afford to start over AGAIN, and would the immediate roster losses be worth any perceived coaching benefits?

What the hell do we do?

Week 5 College Football pick recap

Well, I stay in the red, but I did it knowingly on two games. Hopefully you all took my advice and stayed away from my picks. Let's get to it:
#4 LSU @ #18 Georgia (-3)
Pick: LSU +3
Result: 20-13 LSU: W
This was a ugly, terrible, sloppy game for about 3.5 quarters. The end however was fannnnntastic. There are a couple of things that really jumped out in this game. 1st AJ Green is pretty much an alien cyborg from the future. Coming off a performance when he had huge catches and a rowdy FG block, AJ continued to get the job done with this amazing catch for a TD when UGA needed it most, putting the Bulldogs on top with 1:09 left.

This video brings me to my 2nd point. STOP CALLING BULLSHIT EXCESSIVE CELEBRATION PENALTIES. I'll fully admit that I love celebrations post TD. Guys like Ochocinco just make me happy. It is hard to score a TD, why not let them celebrate. Sure, you can easily go too far, and I understand why the rule is there. But what in that video deserved a 15 yard flag?!?? The SEC has since issued a mea culpa admitting that the flag shouldn't have been thrown, but it was. If a guy scores a huge TD like that to put his team in a position to upset a top 5 rival with just over a minute left in the game, he should be given some leeway. Especially when he didn't do anything!!

All that being said, that flag isn't why UGA lost. It was a terrible call and certainly hurt, but it didn't allow the big KR, and it certainly didn't miss all of these tackles:

S-E-C speed.

#7 USC (-5) @ #24 Cal
Pick: Cal +5
Result: 30-3 USC: L
Well, the Tedford collapse is officially on. This one was just a boat race from the get go. SC pretty much dominated this game from the opening whistle. Not only did they effectively move the ball, they held Javhid Best to a mere 47 yards, while Joe McKnight had a stellar 2 TD, 117 yd performance. Just a beatdown.

#8 Oklahoma (-7.5) @ #17 Miami
Pick: Miami +7.5
Result 21-20 Miami: W
Jacory Harris works when it isn't raining. While OU started this game with a pair of interceptions and a QUICK TD drive, Miami took over in the 2nd half with Harris following his early 2 picks with 3 TDs. Reports are that Bradford will try to start this Saturday to get a game under his belt before the annual showdown with Texas. The mustachioed one has played admirably in his stead, as Jones was in "game manager" mode, throwing for 188 yds and a TD on 18 of 30 passing. Not great, but not losing the game either.

#22 Michigan @ Michigan St (-3)
Pick: Mich +3
Result: 26-20 MSU (OT): L
I'm just going to quote myself from the pick page:
"I really don't get this line at all. Clearly this means MSU will win by 10 and you will all lose if you go with me, but I don't care. I know I'm walking into a trap and I'm doing it while whistling Dixie. This looks like a freaking blank check to me."

That's me, just hanging out under the red cage watching the game, not a care in the world...Stupid trap game.

Washington @ Notre Dame (-13)
Pick: ND -13
Result: 37-30 ND (OT): L
This game was so infuriating to watch. The inability of the Irish offense to score once the got in the red zone was absolutely pathetic. 30 points (in regulation) seems like a nice day...but when you have 500 FREAKING YARDS OF OFFENSE IN REGULATION HOW DO YOU NOT SCORE MORE TDS?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!? Clausen showed that there were no real lingering issues with his toe, coming out with a career day throwing for 422 yards on 23 of 31 passing, w/ 2TDs and a INT courtesy of a ball that went right through the hands of Armando Allen. Golden Tate continued to step up in the Post-Cannon era, torching UW for 244 yards, including a couple of LONG dominant catches

Golden just refuses to let the offense die if he can help it. Also, he can fly apparently:

Dude can do it all. I will fully admit to being terrified until he got up. The thought of an offense sans Floyd and Tate is not a world I want to live in. The craziest part of this game though was the double goalline stand by the Irish thanks to a roughing the snapper call after the 1st half of the stand on a FG attempt (I know, what?). I'll let the vid tell the story, a bit long, but way manly:

The takeaway is a win is a win. ND needs to step up their secondary play and RZ offense if they expect to put up a fight against USC in 2 weeks.

Result this week: 2-3

College Football Week 2 Recap

I'm sorry this came so late. I tried to start this post 4 other times before today. The problem is everytime I got to the last game I got furious and had to shut it down. Enough time has passed now to where I can still type while seething with anger. Plus, it's time to concentrate my hate on the next opponent. Homer amateur writers needs to move on to next games just like the players do, right? On we go, how'd we do?

#3 USC (-7) @ #8 OSU
Pick: USC -7
Result: 18-15 USC: L
This was flat out just an ugly game. For a matchup of 2 top 10 teams, I walked away from this one fairly unimpressed. USC's D (and Tressel's painfully predictable playcalling) did enough to keep Pryor and the Buckeyes in check. Meanwhile, for all the praise being heaped on Matt Barkley, let's slow down a bit. 15 of 31 for 195 yards, 0 TD, and 1 INT....really? The last drive that "Barkley led" should be credited to the ever electric Joe McKnight. SC did enough to win, but I cant say they are really striking fear in the hearts of teams around the land.

UCLA @ Tennesse (-10)
Pick: UCLA +10
Result: 19-15 UCLA: W
The closer this game got, the better I felt about it. THAT was the Jonathan Crompton we all know and love. 93 yards passing and 3 interceptions is no way to go through life son. Another sloppy game that surely has the Gators licking their chops for their chance to get Kiffykins back for all his smack this summer.

South Carolina @ #21 Georgia (-6.5)
Pick: Georgia -6.5
Result: 41-37 UGA: L
Well, I did not see this one coming. UGA got a well needed win after the OSU loss in week 1. Cant say I was expecting a shootout like this from these two teams. More losses like this and Gamecock fans may start counting down the days til they send the OBC to that big golf course in the sky.

Miss. St @ Auburn (-14)
Pick: Miss. St. +14
Result: 49-24 Auburn: L
Again, what the hell? Since when do these teams actually play offense. This is what happens when you go off knowledge based purely from the year before. So much failure.

#18 Notre Dame (-3.5) @ Michigan
Pick: ND -3.5
Result: 38-34 Michigan: L
So much anger. My gut reaction Saturday that I posted on my Tumblr still stands. For those of you that didn't see them, they were:
  • Really, you throw on 2nd down when “running out the clock” allegedly?
  • You get called for an unsportsmanlike for putting a single finger up to your facemask nowadays?
  • You play bend dont break the entire game and let a true freshman tear you up without at any point putting a QB spy on?
  • You are allegedly one of the top receivers in the country yet you have 4 HUGE drops in the 2nd half
  • On a huge 3rd down you put a timing route that takes incredible practice and cohesion on a true freshman?
  • You can’t make an f’ing 28 yard field goal?
  • You have inside safety help covering the quick slant as a CB yet still bite on the juke and leave the WR wide open in the corner?
These all stand now. I still don't know, after watching tons of replays, why AA was called out of bounds on that TD. I dont really think there was a hold on the Rudolph big game, but it might've happened. The play-calling still absolutely infuriates me. But hey, what are you gonna do? The main point is the Defense MUST step up their game from here on out. Jon Tenuta was hired because of his innovative blitzing schemes, yet ND has been able to get pressure on QB's. THIS MUST CHANGE!! Once again, credit to Jimmy, dude had a great day: 25 of 42, 336 yards, 3 TDs and no picks...not shabby. My boy Floyd was a stud again, but went down with an injury late. All reports are he's good to go for Saturday after getting 15 stitches.

Result this week: 1-4
Result to date: 4-6

Lord Almighty that is brutal. Well now that we know I suck, how did you all do? In order of picks made.

Ryan:
This week: 1-4
To date: 4-6

Johnny Chan:
This week: 0-5
To date: 3-7

Judson:
This week: 3-2
To date: 7-3

Donnie B:
This week: 1-4
To date: 1-4

David L:
This week: 0-5
To date: 5-5 (all or nothing there, huh slick?)

The Regulators:
This week: 1-4
To date: 1-4

Kristin:
This week: 0-5
To date: 0-6

Yikes, that is an ugly, ugly week. Let's get em back next week, shall we kids? Scoreboard on the right should be updated, now with new players added. Have a good one.

Week 11 results

I come before you a broken and beaten man. This weekend's game has left quite a bad taste in my mouth. I'm going to have to rant a little bit, starting right about....

Notre Dame @ Boston College (-3.5)
Pick. ND WIN.
Result: 17-0 BC.
Just an absolute abortion of a game. I felt like it was last year all over again. The Irish O was simply nonexistent. On the brightside, the D stepped up, only 10 points were given up by the squad and were able to stop several drives that started on their side of the field thanks to turnovers. They were the beneficiaries of several missed FGs but with all of the help that the Irish O was trying to give them, they more than deserved the break. Now back to the offense...5 turnovers for the O, 4 of which were Clausen INT's. Another pathetic showing on the ground with only 66 rushing yards. JC was an abysmal 26 of 46 and averaged a whopping 4.6 yards per pass to go along with his 4 picks. He simply looked outmatched, playing like a confused freshman again. Within hours of the defeat, Charlie, ostensibly sensing that his job is in jeopardy, said he is taking the play calling duties back over. An article came out today saying it was due to Haywood leaving for a family funeral, but I highly doubt it. Yes this was not supposed to be a huge year for the Irish, but to see unmotivated performances like this, with poor turnovers and tons of penalties that show a lack of discipline, the Irish are still not where they need to be. Weis MUST win these next 2 games, there is no excuse for losing either. A loss to either Navy or Syracuse should, and quite possibly would, lead to him looking for a new job. While his recruiting has been fantastic, the results on the field are always the most important thing.

(sorry bout that...i'm horribly horribly scared of where my team is going, back to it shall we)

#1 Alabama (-3) @ #16 LSU
Pick: Bama Cover.
Result: 27-21 Bama OT. Win both
Heck of a ballgame. Julio Jones showed why he was one of the most highly touted recruits coming into the year. Still...you have to wonder if Bama's O is really good enough to go all the way this year. I dont know who the final 2 teams will be, but one of the nasty SEC D's up against one of the potent Big XII O's is gonna make for a hell of a title game. A shame for LSU to come up with a huge blocked kick to force OT, only to be unable to finish the job.

#9 Oklahoma St. @ #2 Texas Tech(-3.5)
Pick: Tech cover
Result: 56-20 Tech, win both.
Ummm...that was a gratuitous cover. Leach continues to just play a video game in the real world. Harrell's final stat line: 40/50, 456 yds, 6 TDs. Are you kidding me? This kid is just on another level. And his favorite target? A ho-hum 89 yards on 8 catches...for 3 TDs. Leach better keep winning now because he is gonna miss these two. Even tho he has shown his ability to get #s out of whoever he has, these 2 are something special.

#21 Cal @ #7 USC (-22.5)
Pick: USC cover.
Result: 17-3 USC, win SU lose ATS
Hmm...that didn't go as planned. USC fails to make a case for getting back in the title hunt and probably regulates themselves to a different BCS bowl this year. The funny part though...Oregon St still controls their destiny as far as the Pac 10 title goes, meaning SC may not be going to the Rose Bowl.

Record this week:
ATS: 2-2
SU: 3-1

Record to date:
ATS:29-27-1
SU:38-19

How bout the commented picks?

Judson:
Record this week: ATS: 2-2 SU: 2-2 Record to date: ATS: 23-23-1 SU 32-15

Matt:

Flawless victory, the first I can remember all year. Good job Mr Rigney

Johnny Chan:
Record this week: ATS: 3-1 SU: 3-1 Record to date: ATS: 33-23-1 SU: 41-16

Week 7 Results AKA why Eddie doesn't bet real money on games

Holy F was that ugly for the home team. I got to witness a fantastic ballgame in the Red River Shootout. Not only was the outcome good (albeit against me on the picks) but it was a heck of a ballgame. Anyway, let's look at the violence that was this week.

Record to date:
ATS:18-14-1
SU:23-10

Notre Dame @ #22 North Carolina (-7.5)
Pick: ND win.
Result: 29-24 UNC, Lose SU, Win ATS. Rarely will I be happy with a loss. However, Clausen again set a career record for yards, and ND damn near won a game where they lost the turnover battle 5-0. If there are only 4 turnovers, we have another shot at the end of the game. Or we can do better and take off the pick 6, then its a win. A poorly timed loss but not a season killer and nothing like last year's debacles. Plus we could be Michigan...losing at home...to Toledo. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA WEARRRRRR IT!

#5 Texas @ #1 Oklahoma (-7) (Neutral site Dallas)
Pick: OU Cover.
Result: 45-35 Texas, Lose both. One of, if not the best game of the year to this point. Texas stepped up on a huge stage to take down the #1 team in all the land. OU was the first of the high ranking teams to go down this week as we will get to later. Colt stepped up and played mistake free ball, OU had absolutely no running game, and Jordan Shipley just wrecked shop while Quan Cosby killed unsuspecting members of the OU D. Hell of a game for the Horns, now we see how long they can hold on to #1 (admittedly I think they should be behind Bama, but thats just me) as they have to go through this brutal stretch

#4 LSU v #11 Florida (-6)
Pick: LSU win.
Result: 51-21 Florida, lose both. Holy Curbstomp Batman. This got ugly in a hurry. Im guessing Ricky Jean Francois will not be allowed to talk to the media before games anymore. Percy Harvin just man-beasted his way thru the LSU D and special teams. A violent win for Florida, which led to a gratuitously high jump in the rankings for me. Why their loss to unranked Ole Miss has been forgiven so much more than UGA's loss to #2 Bama makes no sense.

#17 Oklahoma St @ #3 Missouri (-14.5)
Pick: Mizzou Cover.
Result: 28-23 OSU, lose both. I'm getting really tired of typing lose both. A fairly low scoring affair for this expected shootout. OSU showed some outstanding blitzes to finally slow Chase Daniel down, including forcing his 1st 3 and out of the year. Hell of a win for Okie St.

#5 Penn St. (-6)@ Wisconsin
Pick: PSU cover.
Result: 48-7, win both. Finally... Like I said, Penn St is good, Wisco is not. Boomshakalaka. (I didnt see this one, that's all the analysis i got for ya)

Results this week:
ATS: 2-3
SU: 1-4...yikes

Results thus far:
ATS:20-17-1
SU:24-14

And the home game:
Johnny Chan:
Record this week: ATS: 2-3 SU: 2-3 Record to date: ATS: 23-14-1 SU: 28-10

Judson:
Record this week: ATS: 2-3 SU: 2-3 Record to date: ATS: 14-13-1 SU 18-10

Matt:
Record this week: ATS: 1-4 SU:1-4 Record to date: Matt: ATS: 16-21-1 SU: 21-17

David:
Record this week: ATS: 1-4 SU: 1-4 Record to date: ATS: 13-17-1 SU: 18-13

A pretty ugly week for all involved. Hopefully we all make a comeback next week. goooooodnight now

Some random thoughts..version 3

So we already did the pick recap, by the way, check out the scoreboard up in the top right corner, nifty huh? That oughta make things easier to find for those interested in the NCAA pick em. So why not take a look at some other stuff that has been going on in the ever trustworthy bulletpoints I love so much...Game On:

  • Knowshon Moreno (UGA) is a freak of nature. Don't believe me? Dude can fly as seen here:

He is going to destroy us all...as long as he stays healthy that is.
  • Maybe I was wrong about this being the year UT doesn't get to 10. Yes their schedule through the Big XII is gonna be ugly, but Colt McCoy sure looks a lot more like healthy Frosh version than Sophomore slump version.
  • I'm not sure how much to take away from the fact that OSU only beat Ohio by 12, aided by some late Ohio turnovers. Combine the fact that Beanie Wells was out with the obvious "look past" quality of this week's game with USC coming up on Saturday I'm inclined not to put too much into it.
  • Why does Vandy own Steve Spurrier? 2 years in a row the Dores get the Gamecocks. This kinda stuff keeps up you gotta wonder how long it will be til OBC decides he's tired of middle of the road SEC talent.
  • Week 2 of the Radio Farewell Tour ended in amazing fashion. Again, if you haven't seen it, we have the technology:

Was there any doubt once that penalty got called that somehow that XP wasn't going in. Oh Tyrone...at least I hear your chipping has been superb as of late.
  • Going over to the NFL...maybe the Giants aren't gonna miss Strahan and Osi all that much, that D Line looked NASTY and Plaxico wrecked shop.
  • Clearly all of you have heard Tom Brady is doneski for the year. Nothing really more to say except wear it Patriots, I hope you have as much luck running it up with Matt Cassell.
  • If Diabetes makes all QBs play this well, will someone help me give it to Clausen? WOW did the Broncos look outstanding last night. I have said that I'm tired of Cutler and this year is his last shot...well, if he plays like that here's hoping he stays for years and years. Speaking of spectacular Eddie Royal was a mad man last night against a solid secondary. Just think of what he will do as the 2nd option once Brandon Marshall comes back next week. Definitely makes me feel good about the possibility of this season.
  • Aaron Rogers looked good in his first start for the Packers, congrats to him. The guy put up with so much bullshit thanks to the league's most overrated QB ever I'd like to see him do well. Had a running and a throwing TD and should've had a 2nd if it weren't for one of his lineman inexplicably being about 8 yards downfield when there wasnt a route in sight...dumb.
  • Speaking of young QB's looking good, Matt Ryan can play. Not only that but so can Michael Turner. 220 yds on the ground....he really did need to get out of LT's shadow.
  • In segue mode, speaking of the chargers BREAKING NEWS!!!! Merriman is done for the year. He was being an idiot trying to play, probably wise to sit it down. Either way, I love seeing that roid using cheater gone.
  • To finish out the schadenfraude, what a play by the Panthers (sans Steve Smith mind you) to win that game at the buzzer over San Diego.
That's pretty much all I've got, thoughts, fears, anything I missed? Let me hear it in the comments. Gooooooood night now

Week 2 Results

For starters, don't worry about ND. No, we aren't really that bad, we are completely sandbagging for Michigan. It's true, Aldridge never got a carry, we hardly blitzed at all, and Floyd only got the ball once, we've got all kinds of tricks up our sleeves so don't worry about the completely planned terrible looking performance. To the results:

Season to date: ATS: 3-4, SU: 3-4

SDSU @ ND (-22)
Pick: ND Cover
Result: 21-13 ND: Loss ATS, Win SU. Like I said, completely planned.

WVU (-8) @ ECU
Pick: ECU cover, WVU win
Result: 24-3 ECU: Win ATS, Loss SU. Skip Holtz is gonna get paid this offseason...yarrrr

Miami @ UF (-21)
Pick: UF cover
Result: 26-3 UF. Win both. Thanks to the fact that Urban Meyer is a huge d-bag who clearly bet on the game, UF covers with a completely unnecessary late FG.

SJSU @ Nebraska (-24)
Pick: Neb cover
Result: 35-12 Neb. Win SU, Loss ATS....So close Bo, so close. A nice start for Neb tho.

Stanford @ ASU (-14)
Pick: ASU cover
Result: 41-17 ASU. Win SU, Loss ATS. This went about as planned, ASU has a rowdy O but their D will be tested later on in the year in the Pac 10.

Tx Tech (-11) @ Nevada
Pick: TT cover
Result: 35-19 TT. Win both. Much closer than I expected, but Tech takes this one even with Harrel putting up a pedestrian (for him) 297 through the air.

So, thru 2 weeks I stand at:
ATS: 6-7
SU:8-5

And those playing along at home:
Matt: ATS: 6-7 SU: 8-5
Dave: ATS: 3-3 SU: 6-0
Judson: ATS: 4-2 SU: 5-1
Johnny Chan: ATS: 6-7 SU: 9-4

Thanks for playing, altho next week, please spell out your picks instead of saying going w/ me, or going with other people, gets might confusing, especially when people listed arent in the game. Some good showings so far, Hopefully we all start picking better.

Results for week 1

Well quite the exciting week 1 of college football. I felt the sunbeams of glory in some forms (Utah) and the stinging lashes of idiocy in others (Tenn) Let's go to the tape:

NCST @ S. Carolina (-12.5):
Pick: S. Carolina cover
Result: NCST 0- SC 34. Win against the spread (ATS) and straight up(SU)

SMU @ Rice (-3.5):
Pick: SMU to win.
Result: SMU 27 - Rice 56. Holy F what a loss both ATS/SU. SMU looked great in the 1st qtr and then just got curbstomped the rest of the way out.

Hawaii @ Florida (-36):
Pick: Hawaii to cover.
Result: HI 10 - FL 56. Loss ATS/SU. UF didn't need Percy Harvin

Utah @ Michigan (-3.5):
Pick: Utah to WIN.
Result: Utah 25- UM 23. Win ATS/SU. WOOOOOOO validation. Wear it Michigan, this game wasn't nearly as close as the score indicates. Utah really controlled this game.

Alabama @ Clemson (-4.5):
Pick: Clemson cover.
Result: Bama 34 - Clem 10. Loss ATS/SU. My pick was based on Spiller and Davis carrying the load...so Tommy Bowden gave them 8 carries total....are you freaking joking me??

Michigan St. @ California (-4.5):
Pick: MSU to WIN
Result: MSU 31 - Cal 38. Loss ATS/SU. A late 81 yd TD run sealed my fate here.

Illinois @ Missouri (-9):
Pick: Missouri to cover
Result:Ill 42 - Mizz 52. Win ATS/SU. Close cover in a shootout.

Record to date:
ATS:3-4
SU:3-4

Commenters records to date:
Matt: ATS: 3-4 SU: (same picks except had Utah Covering not winning, Cal winning not covering)
Johnny Chan: ATS: 4-3, SU 4-3 (same except Cal to cover)

We will be back with more later in the week, probably Thursday. Hopefully more people join in week 2, and hopefully I dont suck as bad week 2 haha. Got em coach.

As always, Oklahoma is stupid

So the Sonics moved to OKC, and while it sucks for Seattle, I think it's a good thing for OKC. They stepped up strong when the Hornets were there and showed they deserve to support an NBA team, so good for them. Whenever there is a new team, everyone always starts speculating on what the new name could be, cause why not, it's fun. One joke that I'm sure everyone saw all over the internet was they should be called the OKC Bombers. Too Soon? Of course. But you can say it's just for 3 pointers, and it is kind of funny...right? No, I'm just a bad person? Fair enough nameless internet person, I can accept that. So you know that wasn't gonna be it, but what could it be? Well, according to ESPN here are your 6 options: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3505617

Barons, Thunder, Bison, Marshalls, Energy and Wind.

Are you joking me OKC? Those are brutal, I mean absolutely ridiculous in their stupidity. Anyway, it's Friday night, time to go out and fall in love again cause that's just how this game is played. I'll be back tomorrow with thoughts on tonight's Team USA game against the ever scrappy Canucks. Thanks DVR. If you got thoughts have at em in the comments. Good night now

Well that's about 20 picks left

Chalmers finally goes to Minnesota at 34. Talk about a freaking steal. Spurs have the 15th pick in this round, if somehow CDR is still around and we pass him up....IUPUI?!?!?! arghhhhhh

Now I'm really confused, and apparently Houston is making better moves than us

Ok, so Arthur had some mystery kidney issues, hence his drop. Sure, ok. I can understand CDR still being available as he was on the fringe of the 1st in most mock drafts, so ok. But what's the deal with Chalmers? Had a hell of a year at Kansas, even without the big game winner in the championship game, coming into a league short on point guards. What do we not know about him now? Mystery tumor, did he bang a gm's daughter and is now getting black balled? Did the coach from IUPUI pay Pop? (soooooo bitter)

And apparently, according to online reports (nothing on ESPN yet) the Rockets are trading Nic Batum to Portland for Arthur and Portland's 3rd pick in the 2nd round. If that's true a hell of a move....and way lame for the Spurs. I hate sports

george hill...

george hill?? GEORGE HILL??? WHO THE HELL IS GEORGE HILL?!?!?!?!??!?! Damnit Pop, you had 2 guys who probably shouldve gone in the lottery and CDR all on the board and you draft a rando from IUPUI.....WHO THE HELL IS GEORGE HILL?!?!?!?!?!? i'm f'ing livid
